Governor's Challenge Basketball Tournament

For years, the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center has brought high school boys basketball players together to compete on the hardwood over the holiday break. However, in 2010, a unique spin was put on the event as Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley issued a challenge to Delaware Governor Jack Markell. The wager: a Maryland Smith Island Cake to a Delaware Peach Pie. The inaugural Governor’s Challenge Basketball Tournament was born bringing with it a new level of excitement to this holiday basketball classic. The entire event is open to the public for daily admission.

This year’s Governor’s Challenge tournament will take place December 26-30, 2013 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center in Salisbury, Maryland. The Governor’s Challenge Tournament is open to the public.

Advanced Tournament Pass, Includes admission to all games, every day of tournament (on-sale after Thanksgiving through the first day of the tournament) $30 Adults / $15 Youth (11-18) / Under 11 Free

The Governor’s Challenge is not a Board of Education sponsored event. Teachers, administrators and other school employees are not entitled to free admission.

Team Information - 2013 Info Coming Soon
Players competing in the Governor’s Challenge Tournament and their coaches will receive free daily admission on off days. Valid picture ID will be required to gain entrance (Driver’s License or Student ID accepted). Free admission cannot be given to those without picture ID.

After winning the Governor’s Challenge in 2010 and 2011, Team Delaware will look for their third straight title while Team Maryland will look to rebound and capture their first.
